Arctic Ice Fishing: Luxury Glamping in the Heart of the Frozen North
Set out on a multi-day ice fishing expedition deep in the wilderness surrounding Kiruna, where vast frozen lakes, snow-covered forests, and endless Arctic skies create a setting of true remoteness. Far from roads and crowds, this is winter nature at its purest—quiet, expansive, and unforgettable.
Led by knowledgeable mountain guides, you’ll move between carefully selected lakes known for their rich fish populations. Each day offers the chance to drill through thick ice and fish for Arctic char, trout, grayling, and northern pike, learning traditional techniques while adapting to the subtle rhythms of the Arctic environment. No two days are alike, and every lake brings new possibilities beneath the frozen surface.
Accommodation is primarily in heated glamping tents set in scenic wilderness locations, combining comfort with an authentic outdoor atmosphere. On certain routes, rustic cabins or small lodges may also be used, offering flexibility while keeping you close to nature throughout the journey.
Between fishing sessions, you’ll gather around open fires for warm meals, hot drinks, and shared stories from the day’s catch. Evenings may include relaxing in a traditional sauna, short snowshoe walks, or simply watching the stillness of the northern landscape. On clear nights, the sky often comes alive with the northern lights, casting shifting colors across the ice and snow.
The fishing season runs throughout the entire winter, with prime conditions typically from March to mid-May when daylight returns, temperatures soften, and fish activity increases beneath the ice. This period offers the perfect balance of stable ice, longer days, and vibrant Arctic light.
Whether you are an experienced angler or a first-time ice fisher, this expedition is more than a holiday—it is an immersion into the deep wilderness of the north, where comfort, adventure, and the timeless tradition of ice fishing come together in a journey you will remember for years to come.
